I found UNAPOLOGETIC around 2016. I was trynna get better—I ain’t even know what I needed to learn, I just knew I needed knowledge. I knew what my biggest influences sounded like… and I knew I had some work to do.
My big bro Marco kept tellin’ me about IMAKEMADBEATS. “He got a studio in his house, bunch of gear, he call it Dirty Socks.” Then he played me a mix MAD had just did. I’m like, bruh… ain’t no nigga in the city soundin’ like this, out his crib? Ain’t no way.
Marco hit me one day like, “Pull up to my next session. BUT BE ON TIME. Matter fact, BE EARLY.”
My first time at Dirty Socks was wild. Marco wasn’t lyin’. Half the shit in Neem Room I ain’t even know what it was. Neve summing mixer, Manley Massive Passive, Prism Titan. I sat in the back quiet as hell just peepin’ game. How you even use this shit? What tf it do?
I pulled up 3 or 4 times before I said a word. Then one day MAD turn around like, “Let me hear somethin.” I stay ready, so I played like 10 beats off my phone. MAD go, “These junts hard… but the mixes trash.” 😂 Realest shit anybody ever told me.
After a few more sessions, MAD was like, “You should intern here.” That’s when everything changed.
That internship gave me more than just knowledge. It gave me family. Accountability. Direction.
I learned consistency from Kid, fearlessness from AWFM, poise from Cam, patience and love from Marie, and leadership, branding and vision from MAD.
I ain’t tatted like AWFM, but the U stamped on my heart. It bleed through everything I do.
Love y’all. Let’s get 10 more and 10 more and 10 more and…
