5 Positive Things That Happened to Me This Week:

Feb. 2nd - Feb. 8th

  1. Maro

Early in the week, I went for a drive with Emilia just so we could listen to the new Maro album together. It’s called “Lifeline” and it’s very electronic and Portuguese and peaceful but also energetic and sad but also uplifting and it’s just all of the things. We loved it, explored new roads, got semi-lost and enjoyed a lot of conversation. Very very nice way to spend an evening

  1. Eclectic Nights

Saw my good friend Joshua Cosby play a few songs at Cafe Eclectic in midtown during their Wednesday night Eclectic Nights series where they have live music and a special evening menu. I was only able to stay for 3 or so songs, but there’s something about seeing a local show without any pomp or extra agenda associated with it….just songs for the sake of playing songs…it just brings me closer to music. It makes me reconnect with the muse of music reminds me of how real that energy is. A nice evening indeed.

  1. Dilla Day

Watched my very good friends IMAKEMADBEATS, Kid Maestro and CMajor absolutely kill their beat set at Central Station in downtown Memphis as a part of the Dilla Day celebration on Friday night. Such a cool crowd, good vibes all around, and great music. I also talked to new humans which is good for the soul

  1. Dance Theater of Harlem

I went with Emilia to see Dance Theater of Harlem, a touring dance company that came through Memphis this weekend. I don’t see many dance companies outside of Ballet Memphis so it’s always nice when I can see something new to further understand what dance is out there. The works we saw were beautiful and inspiring, and I got to see Emilia reconnect with an old friend of hers from several years ago who is in the touring company, which was a very sweet moment. I have absolutely no idea how to dance but it’s one of our most primal art forms and means of expression…and for that I’m greatly interested in it.

  1. “As Always”

I think I might have finished a new song I’m pretty proud of. I will write hundreds of songs this year, but my goal is to just make one great song a month that I’m really proud of. That’s been my mantra for a little while now, because if I can just do that…then by the end of every year I’ll have 12 great songs and that’s an album. So theoretically I could write a new album every year. That’s what I’m shooting for. Anyway…I already have a growing folder of songs I feel great about but early on in February I think I’m able to add one more and that is always a really great feeling. I think I put the final touches on it on Saturday to end the week on a great note!
