At first glance, THE MEDICINE looks like another artist collaboration. AWFM has a coffee with CXFFEEBLACK. Cool.
Look a little closer, though, and it’s part of something much bigger.
CXFFEEBLACK recently introduced REPChain, an initiative focused on connecting products to the people who create them. Instead of treating coffee as a finished product, REPChain is about documenting where it comes from, who contributed to it, and how ownership can stay connected throughout the process.
That lines up with what CXFFEEBLACK has been building for years. The company has never positioned itself as just a coffee roaster. Its mission has always been about creating economic opportunity through Black-owned supply chains and giving consumers a direct connection to the people behind the product.
That’s what makes THE MEDICINE fit so naturally alongside AWFM’s upcoming project, Recessionary Indicator.
The album is rooted in questions about the economy and the systems people depend on. THE MEDICINE explores those same ideas from a different angle. Instead of talking about broken systems, it points toward one that is trying to work differently.
Whether REPChain succeeds remains to be seen. But it’s worth paying attention when a Memphis company starts asking how artists, farmers, businesses, and customers can all participate in the value they create instead of handing it off to someone else.
In that sense, THE MEDICINE isn’t really about coffee.
It’s about ownership
