1. "O Avalanche" - Fionn Regan
I've still been bumping the latest Fionn Regan album. I know I already included a song off of it in a previous list but if I'm being honest it's been on repeat for the past 3 or so months now. Here's one I wasn't initially drawn to, but that I've come back to and it's turned into one of my favs off the album
2. "Slow Moves" - Jose Gonzalez
Jose's very first song on his very first album. I've been revisiting his earlier stuff lately and just love the simplicity of the arrangements and songwriting. Simple but powerful. It's been inspiring my own writing lately, and I hope one day to be able to play the nylon string acoustic guitar as good as he!
3. "Misunderstanding" - Genesis
This is definitely a heartbreak song, but everytime I listen to it I can't help but associate it with current events, and what the climate of our world currently feels like, and the period of craziness we're going through. So much is changing so fast and it feels like we're not intelligent enough of a species to even keep up with it. (most of us anyway, not all of us) When I hear this song, I think of how somebody up in the clouds got something wrong, or pressed a wrong button, because surely we're not supposed to be enduring some of the things this world and its people go through every day.
4. "Hellbent & Moonbound" - Malena Cadiz
I discovered Malena at Folk Alliance back in early 2024 and particularly fell in love with this song after she performed it. Such a haunting voice and the guitar in this song is beautiful as well. It goes oddly nice with the changing of the seasons and weather lately. Easing me into warmth while still feeling the bite of the cold.
5. "Will Anybody Ever Love Me?" - Sufjan Stevens
It took me awhile to get into Sufjan, and I'm still not a super fan like a lot of people out there, but I've been connecting more and more with his stuff lately, both old and new. This song is off his newest album though, created after he went through a pretty ridiculously tumultuous year. (look it up) Emotional and beautiful, another song that feels very much like a "spring is approaching" kind of song.
