5 Positive Things That Happened to Me This Week:

“Yard Sale Weirdo”
I went to a songwriter showcase at the Halloran center on Thursday Jan. 9th that is curated by Memphis artist Mark Edgar Stuart. Mark actually invited me to play this showcase in March of 2020, which inevitably ended up not happening…and then 4 years later in March of 2024 I was invited back and finally got to play it, which is undoubtedly a very full circle moment for me.
But enough of the past, I went again this past Thursday and saw 3 amazing songwriters…but the moment that took the cake for me was Mark playing an old song of his called “Yard Sale Weirdo”, aptly about the weird people that come to your yard sales when you put a bunch of stuff out in your yard. Somehow my girlfriend and I were the only ones in the crowd that didn’t know it as everyone else started singing along during the chorus.
He also admitted to playing it at a recent christmas show, haha! Lyrics were very funny, his energy while playing the song is so entertaining…definitely seek the song out. Very high quality moment from the week

Snow
It snowed on Friday the 10th. Quite a bit too. I like snow. Actually I love snow. It rains all year, the sun comes out most days, it can always be windy or thunderstorm…but snow is only an option during a 3 month stretch of the year and I don’t get to see it at all some years. I was very happy to wake up and see somewhere between 8 inches and a foot in Memphis Friday morning. Shit’s great. I spent some time outside in it, going for a short work, freezing my ass off and delighted as hell

“Flowers For Algernon”
I started reading a new book. I stopped reading as much about halfway through last year and I’ve gotten the bug again to start reading more. Not only do I just enjoy reading but the more I can fill my brain with words and stories, the more inspiration I have for songs and other writing projects. So my family gifted me around 8-10 books for Christmas and I now have a very large queue of new reads.
I started my first one earlier in the week, “Flowers For Algernon”, about a mentally challenged guy named Charlie who undergoes experimental surgery that essentially makes him a genius. The book is formatted through journal entries of Charlie, and you read the progression of him entering this journal entries as mentally disabled, and slowly shifting towards genius. I’m only about 100 pages in so far but I’m loving it. Pick up a book!

I stopped being sick
My whole family got norovirus to start the year. That shit was terrible. Fluids escaping my body in every way a fluid can escape the body. Intestines were going crazy. Slept on an air mattress to stay separated from my partner upon returning to Memphis, and had to constantly wipe down all of my germs to prevent anyone else from getting sick. (it’s very contagious) Eventually I started to feel better, and inevitably tested the health of my stomach by eating two big cheeseburgers. Success! I was cured. Hell yeah

UNAPOLOGETIC. Meeting
First meeting of the year with the UNAPOLOGETIC. Team. The last weekly meeting I was a part of was the Wednesday before Christmas, so it had been 3 weeks since my last meeting with the team. Missed everybody and loved being back in the room with the energy of all the creatives. My people! It’s going to be a great year.
