It was around June 2015 when I decided that I wanted something different from what I had been doing musically and didn’t quite know where to go, or who to call.
And I remembered that in previous years IMAKEMADBEATS and I had worked on some other material for a mutual friend, and he somehow came back to my awareness.
After recording in the first session with him after those years had passed, it reignited something in me again that just kind of felt like experimentation. It felt fun. I felt like a kid.
And I knew that I wanted the experience to continue. And even in that time, I could be honest and say then I wasn’t financially where I wanted to be to be able to pay for consistent sessions and consistent creating. But I wanted to be of use. I wanted to be of service in someway like, being able to work with IMAKEMADBEATS and being able to trade off something I thought I was really good at which was making a whole bunch of weird sounds with my voice and creating samples and just being creative.
And in turn getting to spend a group of artists who all came together for the sake of just being better at being themselves and finding out what comes out of that. Because of that process, I think you got what you see today. Because I was able to step into an Unapologetic world while I was a very apologetic person and I was able to become what I am now by being around others who chose to not be sorry anymore. I was able to stop apologizing myself, and I ain’t said sorry since.
Unapologetic is that place that makes it OK to be Cameron so I’mma give y’all Cameron every chance I get.
